West Ham: Italian journalist drops Broja update on Twitter

Italian journalist Rudy Galetti has now shared a West Ham United transfer update on their pursuit of Chelsea striker Armando Broja.

The Lowdown: West Ham eye moves…

The 2022/23 Premier League season may well be a crucial one for David Moyes, who is looking to maintain the Irons’ place among England’s elite clubs.

West Ham narrowly missed out on qualification for the Europa League last term, instead having to settle for a place in the Europa Conference League, but that hasn’t stopped the club from attempting to back the manager.

The arrivals of Nayed Aguerd from Rennes and Alphonse Areola on a permanent deal from Paris-Saint Germain could yet be followed by more incomings, with West Ham tipped to be ‘very busy’ this summer.

The Latest: Galetti shares Broja update…

After a successful spell on loan at Southampton last season in which he netted nine goals, Chelsea marksman Broja is believed to be a target for the Hammers.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-latest-updates-2/” title=”West Ham latest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Sharing news on Twitter, Galetti of Sport Italia TV and Tribal Football has claimed that the Irons are now ‘above all’ in contention to sign the Albania forward.

He explained: “Armando Broja (Chelsea) will be on the market this summer. Many EPL clubs (West Ham above all), Ajax and teams are interested in the striker.”

The Verdict: Get it done?

Depending on Chelsea’s valuation, the 20-year-old could prove to be an astute prospective purchase by West Ham.

Having enjoyed a productive temporary spell on loan at St Mary’s, Broja was branded ‘sensational’ by Southampton legend Francis Benali for his contribution in parts.

The 6 foot 3 powerhouse also comes with a physicality which is tailor-made for English top-flight football and could provide a different outlet for Moyes in attack as a target man.

Aribo could still leave Ibrox

After an impressive run in Europe last season which saw them reach the final of European competition, Rangers fans would have perhaps been consigned to some of their best young talents at Ibrox attracting interest from abroad.

What’s the word?

One man who caught the eye last season was Joe Aribo and sides across the border are understandably keen on signing the Rangers forward after his performances in Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side.

The former Charlton man has been tipped to reunite with Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa and while rumours have been quiet in recent weeks, Dean Jones suggests that the Villans could still return for Aribo later in the window.

In an interview with GIVEMESPORT, he said: “I think Aribo will become an option a bit later in the window from what I’m told.

“I think he had ideas of going somewhere else that have fallen through, and now they’re going to look at further options, and I know that Villa is just one of those that need to be explored. So that might happen but further down the line.”

Supporters will be gutted

Since joining on a free transfer from Charlton in 2019, Aribo has established himself as a key player at Ibrox.

The 25-year-old has gone on to make 148 appearances for the Gers, contributing 26 goals and 25 assists in that time, while last season was certainly his best in a Rangers shirt.

Aribo would feature 57 times in all competitions for van Bronckhorst’s side, contributing nine goals and ten assists, which emphasises just how much the Dutch manager relied on the midfield maestro last season.

He also showed his versatility in the Europa League final, featuring up front and scoring the opening goal, so it is clear that he is a very-highly valued player at Ibrox.

However, with his contract set to expire at the end of next season, it would not be a surprise to see him sold this summer.

Given just how important he has been for Rangers in recent seasons, supporters will surely be gutted to hear that an Aston Villa approach is on the cards.

Aston Villa must sign Ryan Kent

Aston Villa have been busy in the summer transfer window as they have brought in four signings to bolster the squad.

Boubacar Kamara, Diego Carlos, Robin Olsen, and Philippe Coutinho have all put pen to paper on permanent contracts with the club – after the latter two spent time on loan at Villa Park last term.

Steven Gerrard may not be done yet, though, as he continues to look for ways to improve his team with a view to finishing as high up in the Premier League as possible.

The head coach may want further reinforcements and could look to the attack to freshen up the XI – bringing in a gem to complement the likes of Ollie Watkins, Coutinho, and Emi Buendia.

One player who has been touted with a switch to the Midlands this summer is Rangers winger Ryan Kent and the club must now snap him up before the end of the window.

Gerrard previously labelled Kent “a constant threat” during his time managing the club and it was once claimed on Sky Sports’ YouTube channel that he is “the Mbappe of Scottish football” and he can now be the Villa boss’ own version of the Frenchman next season.

Like the PSG superstar, Kent is a right-footed forward who can play on the left – cutting in on his right foot – or through the middle as a striker. He is a dynamic and versatile forward and he has shown that he can both score and assist goals.

In the 2021/22 campaign, he produced three goals and 20 assists in all competitions for the Light Blues. The season before that, Kent managed 11 goals and 13 assists for Gerrard – showing that he does have the potential to make a big impact in the final third on a regular basis.

Whilst he may not come to the Premier League and deliver 28 goals and 17 assists (Mbappe’s 2021/22 Ligue 1 return), the Rangers man could chip in at the top end of the pitch to take some of the goalscoring burdens away from the natural number nines.

The £18k-per-week wizard also has time on his side to develop further, at the age of 25. He can, therefore, be an asset in the short and long-term for Villa, with Gerrard having already proven that he can bring the best out of the attacker.

Now, imagine Kent flying down the wing and cutting inside to score and create Premier League goals in Mbappe-esque fashion.

Newcastle eye Southampton gem Dibling

Newcastle United are reportedly now ‘leading the chase’ to sign Southampton teenage sensation Tyler Dibling.

The Lowdown: Upcoming prospect

At just 16 years of age, Dibling is an upcoming prospect at St. Mary’s Stadium, where he scored eight goals and made a further five assists in 22 games in total for their youth teams last season (Transfermarkt).

Hailed one of the academy’s ‘shining’ stars by Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, he has even been likened to global star and Saints academy product Gareth Bale by some supporters, after netting a hat-trick of Bale-esque long-range strikes against the Magpies in the Premier League 2 back in April (Hampshire Live).

The Latest: ‘Leading the chase’

Taking to Twitter, journalist Pete O’Rourke has revealed that the St. James’ Park outfit, as well as Chelsea, are now ‘leading the chase’ to sign the young attacking midfielder/winger:

“Newcastle and Chelsea are leading the chase for Southampton teenage sensation Tyler Dibling.”

The Verdict: Exciting

Potentially adding a star in the making in Dibling to their academy should be very exciting for the Toon Army – Football Insider called the youngster a ‘sensation’ and ‘huge talent’.

They have already splashed the cash on the likes of Nick Pope, Sven Botman and Matt Targett to go into their first team, but building up the academy is just as important in their long-term project, something Amanda Staveley has publicly stated already.

Having played against their youth sides, Sibling should be able to settle in fairly quickly, and the England U16 international will certainly be a player to keep an eye on for Eddie Howe as he develops.

Forest working on double transfer

Nottingham Forest have been linked with moves for both Lewis O’Brien and Harry Toffolo this summer, and a new update has now emerged regarding the club’s progress in getting a deal done for the duo.

What’s the latest?

Pete O’Rourke has revealed an update on Forest’s pursuit of the two Huddersfield Town players this summer.

The journalist tweeted: “Nottingham Forest are working on a double deal to sign Huddersfield duo Lewis O’Brien and Harry Toffolo with talks ongoing between both clubs.”

Cooper will be buzzing

With six fresh faces already joining the squad at the City Ground this summer, Cooper will surely be buzzing to add his seventh and eighth signings into the mix if Forest can finalise a deal for the Huddersfield pair this summer.

O’Brien would be a great addition in midfield for the newly-promoted side, and he proved that he is ready for the step-up to the Premier League with his standout performances which led the Terriers to the Championship play-off final at Wembley last season, only narrowly missing out on promotion to Forest.

Over 43 league appearances, the 23-year-old scored three goals, delivered three assists and created four big chances, making one key pass and 2.2 tackles per game. He also won the majority of his duels (56%) and was successful with the majority of his dribbles (70%).

Huddersfield’s number eight was the recipient of high praise last season, with his former manager Carlos Corberan hailing the player “very special” in an interview (via Yorkshire Post).

The 39-year-old said of O’Brien: “He is one player who is very special in the team and is one player who deserves everything he has achieved in football as he makes everything to achieve everything (in football).”

In terms of Toffolo, Cooper is currently looking for the ideal player to complete a wing-back partnership with new signing Neco Williams, who will be deployed at right-back position, and the Huddersfield gem could be the key to unlocking that attacking threat from defence.

The 26-year old scored six goals, delivered seven assists and created five big chances, making one tackle and two clearances per game, along with winning the majority of his ground and aerial duels combined over 42 Championship appearances last season.

Former Huddersfield boss Danny Cowley previously lavished praise on Toffolo, claiming that the player was “hard-working” in a post-match press conference back in 2020.

Signing the Terriers duo would be a huge coup for Cooper, who will want to bolster his squad as much as possible to give Forest the best chance of retaining their top-flight status when they make their long-awaited Premier League return next month.

Downie delivers Newcastle transfer claim

Newcastle United have been getting stuck into the transfer window with three new signings at St James’ Park so far this summer, and a new update on future transfer plans has now emerged from a reliable source.

What’s the latest?

Sky Sports News’ northeast correspondent Keith Downie has revealed an update on the Magpies’ transfer plans in the remaining weeks of the transfer window.

He tweeted: “So that’s four of last season’s Newcastle squad gone, in the shape of Hayden, Clark, Gayle & Hendrick. Still reckon there’ll be another 3-5 that could leave this window to create space for a couple of potential new signings in the eventual 25-man squad #NUFC”

Supporters will love it

The news that Newcastle still have the intentions of further improving and rebuilding the squad is something that supporters will surely love to hear, as there are big expectations on Tyneside after a fantastic second half of last season in the Premier League.

The Magpies were on a trajectory which saw them on the path to relegation after 10 winless games, sitting 19th in the Premier League when Eddie Howe arrived at the club in November as the takeover was finally completed, but things quickly changed and Newcastle went on a phenomenal run.

By mid-April, only Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham and Arsenal had taken more points than the Magpies since Howe’s first match in charge, while only Jurgen Klopp’s team had accrued more points than the Toon in 2022.

After finishing 11th in the league when the season was completed, the powers at St James’ Park have the opportunity to strengthen their squad further during the summer transfer window to achieve further success when Howe’s team return to action for the new season.

Newcastle have had a promising start in their transfer window with Matt Targett (permanently), Sven Botman and Nick Pope joining the ranks this summer, but there is still work to do, with Fabrizio Romano claiming that a striker a top priority for the club.

The Premier League returns in less than a fortnight’s time, so Howe and his team will need to get to work immediately to ensure that they are not caught short before the season commences.

With many strikers linked with a move to the club, it shouldn’t be too long before another new face arrives at St James’ Park.

Rangers: GvB can land Aribo 2.0 in McAtee

Glasgow Rangers have been involved in a significant number of deals throughout this latest summer transfer window.

One transfer in particular saw Joe Aribo make a move to the English Premier League, joining Southampton in a deal that could rise up to a reported fee of £10m.

After scoring 26 goals and delivering 25 assists in 148 appearances for the Gers across all competitions, it’s safe to say that the Ibrox club lost an important player this summer.

Despite this disappointment, the remaining weeks of the summer transfer window could give Giovanni van Bronckhorst the chance to bring in what could be Rangers’ next version of Aribo.

One player that has been linked with a move to Ibrox this summer that could fit this bill is Manchester City midfielder James McAtee.

Having scored 44 goals and delivered 27 assists in 87 appearances across City’s youth sides, the 19-year-old clearly has the attacking ability in him that mirrors what Aribo offered Rangers in terms of not only scoring goals but creating them as well.

Also, with the youngster being able to play as an attacking midfielder and in a central midfield role, this versatility also shows the similarities between him and the former Gers star, given his ability to also play in those positions.

This backs up why journalist Jonathan Smith hailed McAtee as a “highly-rated” player that has “massive talent and huge potential” in him.

Despite his clear talent, the Englishman has only made six senior appearances for the Premier League champions, which could be why reports have suggested that City would be willing to allow McAtee to leave on loan this summer to give him the opportunity to get regular game time.

With all of this in mind, before Rangers potentially find out how much of a miss Aribo could be for the team, it would make sense for them to do all they can to secure a loan deal for the City prodigy and see if he can replicate the same sort of attacking threat that the former Gers star did during his time in Glasgow.

If the Ibrox outfit were able to do this and the player hit the ground running in the team, his goals and assists could give Rangers a big boost to their chances of winning the Premiership title in 2022/23.

AND in other news: “New deal..”: Reporter drops transfer claim that’ll leave Rangers supporters gutted

Newcastle: Keith Downie shares Broja update

The future of Armando Broja is developing into one of the major transfer sagas of the summer, with Newcastle United believed to be one of the clubs who are keen on prising the youngster away from Chelsea.

What’s the word?

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has insisted that a deal to bring the 20-year-old to St James’ Park cannot be ruled out just yet, despite reports that the Magpies are not in the race to sign the highly-rated forward.

Asked whether the Albania international is on Eddie Howe’s radar, the transfer insider stated: “Absolutely. I know for a fact he’s definitely on the list.

“I’m reading between the lines a little bit, because I’m obviously been away, but I don’t think I would rule that one out totally yet.”

The recent suggestion is that both Newcastle and fellow Premier League side Everton are battling it out for the 14-cap brute’s signature, while West Ham United are also still in contention despite their capture of Sassuolo marksman Gianluca Scamacca.

Journalist Ryan Taylor has also claimed that the Tynesiders’ desire for a loan move could see them fall out of the reckoning, with the Slough-born striker – who could be worth in the region of £30m – said to favour a permanent swoop if he is to leave Stamford Bridge.

Would be a major coup

There is clearly still a large number of hurdles to overcome if Newcastle are to secure the signing of Broja for the forthcoming campaign, although it is undoubtedly a positive to learn that the 6 foot 3 menace is still very much a player of interest.

Managing to get a deal over the line would undoubtedly be huge coup for the PIF regime, with the £8.5k-per-week hotshot having been in sparkling form in his debut campaign as a top-flight regular last time out, netting nine goals in all competitions while on loan at Southampton.

That haul included six Premier League goals during his time at St Mary’s, having previously scored 11 times in a season-long loan stint at Eredivisie outfit Vitesse Arnhem during the 2020/21 campaign.

The departure of club-record flop Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan has opened the door for more regular game-time for the Blues academy graduate at his parent club. However, it remains to be seen if he will be a key part of Thomas Tuchel’s first-team plans, having made just a solitary senior appearance for the west Londoners thus far.

As for Newcastle, they have so far come up short in their attempts to land a new centre-forward this summer, with Howe’s side seemingly in need of additional quality despite signing Chris Wood on a £25m deal from Burnley in January.

Being left with just the New Zealand international and the injury-prone Callum Wilson as strikers for the new season would be a real concern for the former Bournemouth boss, having seen his team miss out on a move for French starlet Hugo Ekitike, who has secured a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

In Broja, the 44-year-old would seemingly have the perfect attacking solution, while it would represent a major coup to poach the player from one of the division’s elite clubs.

Derby interested in move for Oko-Flex

Derby County are ‘showing interest’ in West Ham United winger Armstrong Oko-Flex, according to a report from insider ExWHUemployee.

The Lowdown: Forwards wanted

On Wednesday, the Rams announced the signing of Everton forward Lewis Dobbin, but Liam Rosenior appears to be keen to bolster his attacking ranks even further.

With money still tight, the League One outfit’s best chances of bringing in fresh faces is to look to the loan and free agent markets, just like they did with the Toffees teenager, and the Rams are now once again eyeing a deal for a young, talented prospect from the Premier League.

The Latest: Derby monitoring Oko-Flex

Writing on his Patreon (as quoted by West Ham Zone), ExWHUemployee revealed that the Irons are likely to allow Oko-Flex to make a temporary exit this window, with Derby a possible destination.

“As reported before we have heard a number of academy players could be about to go on loan too with Derby County showing interest in Oko-Flex for example.”

The Verdict: Next up after Dobbin?

Derby will be hoping to bounce back up to the Championship at the first time of asking, and it’s apparent that they are targeting new additions in the final third to try and help them achieve that.

Alongside Dobbin, Oko-Flex, once labelled a ‘very dangerous’ player by former West Ham’s U23s coach Dmitri Halajko, would be an energetic and pacy fit in the Rams’ starting XI given he’s still only 20 years old.

The Irishman netted 11 goals and provided two assists in 21 Premier League 2 outings last season, via Transfermarkt, showing that he can contribute in the one area of the pitch that matters most, making him the profile of player that Rosenior needs to look at getting in the building as soon as possible.

Man Utd keen on signing young attacker

Manchester United are eyeing up a move for Red Bull Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko this summer, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Dire start to the season

Erik ten Hag had a disastrous start to his reign as United manager on Sunday afternoon, as his side lost 2-1 at home to Brighton in their Premier League opener.

The Red Devils never really got going at Old Trafford and there was a lack of firepower on show, as the likes of Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford had quiet days at the office, managing just three shots between them (and none on target).

A new striker appears to be needed before the end of the current transfer window, and Romano has shed some light on one man that the Red Devils hope to bring to Old Trafford before the month is out.

The Latest: Sesko a potential target

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Romano claimed that Sesko is a possible target in the coming weeks, having been strongly linked with a move to United recently.

The Italian stated:

“He’s one of the targets, one of the names they have on the list. He’s a player really appreciated by Manchester United, they had conversations with these agents.”

The Verdict: Long-term acquisition?

Sesko looks like a hugely exciting prospect, scoring the only goal against United’s rivals Liverpool in a pre-season win for Salzburg, along with registering 20 goal contributions (12 goals, eight assists) in 39 competitive appearances for the Austrian champions overall.

At just 19, the Slovenian would represent a long-term signing by United if they get him, someone who can come in and be an important figure straight away while growing into an even more formidable player as the years advance.

Ten Hag needs to bring in youth rather than depending on someone like 37-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo, with past managers in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era buying ageing or expensive quick fixes too often who haven’t worked out.
