What’s the word?

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the respected insider has revealed that talks are “ongoing” regarding a permanent deal for the USA international, although the player is believed to be “happy” in his current surroundings.

Asked about the 24-year-old’s future, O’Rourke revealed that: “It’s still ongoing, this one. Celtic want to get it done and I think Carter-Vickers is quite happy. He’s enjoying his time up at Celtic as well.”

The on-loan Tottenham Hotspur man joined the club on a season-long loan deal back in August, with the Scottish Premiership outfit including a buy option as part of that switch, which could be worth as much as £10m.

Celtic coup

That news would seemingly represent a major coup for the Glasgow side, with it looking as if they have managed to fend off Premier League interest in the player, as a permanent deal edges ever closer.

A recent report named the likes of Southampton, West Ham United, Everton and newly-promoted Fulham among those potential interested parties, although it looks as if Ange Postecoglou has got his man, with Carter-Vickers finally appearing to have found a settled home.

The Spurs academy graduate has failed to make a single top-flight appearance at his parent club, having been forced to endure a further six loans prior to his move to Celtic Park, although has more than shown his worth in a fine campaign north of the border.

Dubbed “immense” by pundit Chris Sutton, the 6 foot 1 centre-back has been a colossal presence in the Hoops’ backline, proving a pivotal asset in their surge towards the league title.

In his 30 league outings this season – all of which have come as starts – the Southend-born ace has kept 16 clean sheets and averaged 1.2 interceptions and 4.2 clearances per game, while also winning an impressive 72% of his aerial duels.

His average match rating of 7.34 is also the sixth-highest among the Celtic squad, with teammate Greg Taylor acknowledging that both Carter-Vickers – and teammate Carl Starfelt – have been a “huge part” of the club’s success this season.

In such an attacking side, the £2.7m-rated man copes more than adequately as the last line of defence, while he’s also no slouch at the other end of the pitch, chipping in with four league goals this season, including a vital winner in the Old Firm derby back in early April.

The all-round talent looks likely to be able to reproduce the goods next season, all it needs now is for chief executive Michael Nicholson to negotiate the deal.

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in a deal to bring Lautaro Martinez to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer transfer window.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to Jacque Talbot, with the Football Transfers journalist revealing in a post on Twitter that Fabio Paratici is a big fan of the Inter Milan centre-forward, before going on to claim that the Spurs sporting director even attempted to sign the 24-year-old in the January window.

In a further tweet, Talbot confirmed that both Tottenham and Atletico Madrid are once again interested in the signing of the Argentina international at the end of the current campaign, with recent reports from Italy suggesting that the Serie A side would be willing to accept an offer of between €60m-€70m (£50m-£58m) for Martinez this summer.

In his post, the transfer insider said: “In what’s becoming a running trend, our story from two weeks ago confirmed by Fabrizio Romano. Tottenham and Atletico Madrid have interest in Lautaro Martinez of Inter.”

Talbot continued: “We’re told Spurs sporting director Fabio Paratici is a fan of the 24-year-old and even tried to do a deal for him in January. While Atletico readying themselves for Luis Suarez’s departure when his contract is up in two months and see the 24-year-old as the ideal replacement.”

A steal at £58m

Following his £22.5m move to Inter back in the summer of 2018, Martinez quickly has gone on to establish himself as one of the most dangerous centre-forwards in world football – bagging 69 goals and registering 23 assists over his 175 appearances for the Nerazzurri.

A large portion of these goal involvements came under the stewardship of Antonio Conte, with the Argentine hitman finding the back of the net 40 times and providing 19 assists in 97 outings over the course of the 52-year-old manager’s two-year spell in charge at the San Siro.

The £177k-per-week striker’s best campaign for Conte undoubtedly came last season, when, over his 38 Serie A fixtures, the 24-year-old scored 17 goals, registered ten assists and created nine big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 2.9 shots and making one key pass per game.

These returns saw the £63m-rated forward average a quite extraordinary SofaScore match rating of 7.17, ranking him as the Italian’s third-best player in the league – playing a starring role in Inter’s title-winning campaign.

As such, with Conte clearly knowing how to get the best out of Martinez, it is undeniable that the centre-forward would make an exceptional addition to the likes of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski in the Tottenham Hotspur attack.

And, when considering that Inter were reported to have rejected Tottenham’s €95m (£80m) bid for the striker just eight months ago, should the 37-time capped international indeed be available for just £58m this summer, it is clear to see that Fabio Paratici could secure a steal by landing the 24-year-old.

According to The Scottish Daily Express, and their reliable long-serving reporter Scott Burns, the Reds are one of the front-runners to make a move for Pollard in the coming months.

They are not alone in showing an interest, however, with Premier League rivals Manchester United and Rangers also keen on possibly spending a six-figure sum on him.

Klopp’s side could potentially scupper Man United’s or the Gers’ possible plans to sign Pollard if they decide to make a move.

The Verdict: Long-term planning

As mentioned, it is crucial that Liverpool plan for life well beyond Klopp, ensuring that his time in charge isn’t just a glorious era that ended after his tenure.

Acquiring the best young British talent is certainly a good way of preventing that and Pollard could fall into that category, considering his current reputation.

Admittedly, he remains unproven at a certain level and not a huge amount is known about him, but Liverpool’s success in the transfer market under Klopp suggests he is an exciting proposition.

Writing in his latest piece for iNews, journalist Douglas has revealed that Tarkowski has now ’emerged’ as a potential target this summer.

Senior sources at the Toffees have claimed that there is ‘no way’ that Moshiri is going to sell the club, despite Russian links with Alisher Usmanov, and Frank Lampard can ‘expect to be backed’ in the market.

The Verdict: No-brainer

Given the fact that Tarkowski is out of contract at Burnley in the summer, he will be able to leave as a free agent, and so it would be a no-brainer for the Blues to sign him up.

Described as a ‘real leader’ by pundit Noel Whelan, the 29-year-old could be the organiser at the back that Lampard’s team need in order to be more solid and ship fewer goals.

Of course, he has plenty of experience of playing in the top flight, and so should be able to settle in fairly quickly.
