After bundling out West for just 194, South Zone proceeded tolose three quick wickets to end the day at 53 for 3.Electing to bat, West made a solid start with openers JN Saha (41) and BJoshi (37) adding 72 runs in 19.1 overs. But the fall of Joshi triggered acollapse and the innings folded up in the 70th over of the innings. Only YTakowle (43) made any significant contribution. The wickets were shared byall around with Tamil Nadu medium pacer L Balaji (3 for 51) and Mohd Faiq(3 for 29) being the pick.South Zone in response made a shaky start losing TS Suman (4) off the thirdball of the innings, bowled by Kulkarni. Deepak Chougule (1) was the nextto be dismissed in the third over of the innings. Chougule was bowled byUday Kulkarni. Then Tahir Hussain and Arjun Yadav (29 batting) took thescore on to 46 when Tahir was caught by Kulkarni off S Yadav. Therafter,Arjun and ASK Varma (1 batting) took the team to stumps.

Southampton’s hopes of signing Arnaut Danjuma this summer have seemingly been handed a boost after Bournemouth failed to win promotion back to the top-flight with defeat in the play-off semi-final against Brentford recently.

The Dutch winger was linked with a move to St Mary’s earlier this year, with The Sun claiming that both Southampton and West Ham were keen on bringing the former Club Brugge man to the Premier League.

However, it had seemed as if he could help the Cherries secure an immediate return to the top-flight following their relegation last season, as they finished the season in fine form and earned a spot in the playoffs.

They met Brentford and earned a 1-0 win in the home leg thanks to Danjuma’s goal before he added another in the return leg to put Jonathan Woodgate’s side 2-0 up on aggregate.

However, the Bees would fight back and would progress to the final after a 3-1 win, consigning Bournemouth to another season in the second tier.

Given that Danjuma managed an impressive 17 goals and seven assists in 35 Championship appearances this season, it would be a surprise if he doesn’t earn himself a move away, and Southampton could be the ones to take advantage of the Cherries’ failure to win promotion.

Goals from out wide has been a real problem for Ralph Hasenhuttl this season, with Nathan Redmond, Moussa Djenepo, Theo Walcott and Stuart Armstrong managing just 10 Premier League goals between them, so signing a winger with an eye for goal like Danjuma could be a superb addition ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Woodgate was full of praise for Danjuma earlier this year after his impressive form helped fire Bournemouth up the table, saying:

“I know last season that he didn’t really get a run in the Premier League and he maybe found it a bit difficult to get game time, but this season he’s been outstanding. I can only talk of what he’s done under my reign, but at the minute, he’s playing some exceptional football, and what else he is doing is working for the team.”

A player of Danjuma’s quality deserves to be playing in the Premier League and given that Southampton hold a geographical advantage in any potential discussions, you would hope that Saints CEO Martin Semmens can convince him to make the switch to St Mary’s this summer.

In a brave display ofgritty batting at its best, the Zimbabweans batted more than threedays to eke out a draw. The man who distinguished himself the most wasundoubtedly Andy Flower. Ending the day on 232 not out, the Zimbabweanstumper became the fourth Zimbabwean, after Dave Houghton (266), GuyWhittall (203*) and brother Grant Flower (201*) to score a doublehundred in Test cricket. After waiting 47 Tests and 84 innings,Alistair Campbell, another star in the Zimbabwean batting firmament,notched up his maiden Test century. Zimbabwe piled up 504/6 inaddition to their first innings score of 382 and the second Test endedin a draw. India however won the two-Test series 1-0.Early in the day, the hosts struck two early blows after AlistairCampbell reached his maiden Test century. Minutes before Campbellreached his hundred, Andy Flower brought up his ninth Test century.The Zimbabwean stumper has been by far the classiest of the batsmenand it came as no surprise to anyone that he crossed the three figuremark early on the final day.Much of India’s hopes rested on the broad shoulders of Javagal Srinathand the Karnataka speedster took a bit of time to warm up. Tickling a ball from outsideoff to Ganguly at slip, Viljoen was genuinely disappointed as he leftthe crease after over two and a half hours.Viljoen’s innings of 38 helped forge a partnership of 113 with AndyFlower. Although he did eventually fall, the time he spent at thewicket all but ruined India’s chances of forcing a result in thisgame. Heath Streak helped himself to 29 runs before the match wasdrawn. Andy Flower’s contribution to this Test match cannot beunderestimated. The southpaw has adjusted brilliantly to batting inthe subcontinent. With Zimbabwe having to declare the innings closedin Delhi, he was left stranded on 183 not out. There were no suchcompulsions in this Test match. Batting the whole of the last day out,Andy Flower’s marathon innings of over nine hours took him to 232 notout. Hitting 30 boundaries and two sixes, Andy Flower played justabout every shot in the book. The fact that he struck reverse sweepsto the fence speaks volumes for the confidence with which he played.For his efforts with the bat, he was rightly adjudged both the man ofthe match and the man of the series.For the Indian bowlers there was no joy. Although the threemediumpacers bowled with fire in different sessions, they were unluckynot to pick up more wickets than they did. All in all, five days ofgood hard Test cricket showed that Zimbabwe were well on their way tobecoming a very serious player in world cricket.

Com a paralisação do futebol brasileiro e a suspensão das atividades do departamento de futebol do Fluminense, devido à pandemia do coronavírus, os jogadores do clube foram forçados a tentar manter a forma física e a rotina de treinamentos dentro de casa. Mas o clube das Laranjeiras, é claro, não deixou de auxiliar os seus jogadores neste momento. Profissionais de diversos departamentos do futebol do Tricolor estão acompanhando os atletas diariamente e fizeram um planejamento de atividades para manter os jogadores focados e saudáveis.

Entre estes setores que acompanha os jogadores, está, é claro, a fisiologia e a preparação física. Marcos Seixas, preparador físico da equipe profissional do Fluminense, detalhou quais têm sido as orientações passadas ao elenco e como tem funcionado esse processos à distância.

– Nossas principais orientações para os atletas nesse período de quarentena tem sido basicamente para eles se manterem ativos. Temos enviados treinamentos específicos para eles, do ponto de vista neuromuscular e cardiovascular. Temos feito algumas planilhas e slides com treinamentos funcionais, exercícios de estabilização, fortalecimento local, associados a alguns treinos aeróbicos. Essas são as nossas recomendações para esse período, para que ele não entrem em “destreinamento” – afirmou Seixas, antes de completar:

– Nós não queremos, nesse momento, que eles percam a sua condição física adquirida nos últimos meses com nossos treinamentos e nossos jogos. Nosso objetivo é esse.

Os jogadores do Fluminense não atuam desde o último dia 15, quando a equipe fez 2 a 0 no Vasco, no Maracanã. Logo no dia seguinte, as atividades já foram suspensas e os jogadores começaram o isolamento em casa. Para o preparador físico, por mais que eles se exercitem em casa, a falta de treinos coletivos pode gerar problemas na volta as atividades.

– Essa perda considerável que ocorre a partir de duas semanas de inatividade vai ser acentuada principalmente por conta de eles não estarem realizando os treinamentos específicos do futebol, com bola, em grupo, treinamentos coletivos em espaços maiores, treinamentos de força específico da maneira que a gente tá acostumado a fazer, voltados para a prática do futebol. Isso que vai gerar a maior perda, provavelmente, a partir da segunda semana.

Outro fator que gera preocupação para Marcos Seixas é a falta de uma previsão de volta as atividades coletivas. Com a suspensão das competições por prazo indeterminado, o planejamento do trabalho fica comprometido.

– É uma situação que a gente nunca viveu, apenas por conta de paradas relativas a Copa América ou Copa do Mundo, mas nesses períodos nós sabíamos quanto tempo a gente ia ficar parado. E agora a gente não sabe. Essa que é a grande diferença e o agravante da situação. Não sabemos quanto tempo iremos ficar parados e, quando voltarmos, não sabemos em quanto tempo teremos que estar prontos para disputar a primeira partida oficial. Esse é o grande dilema. Espero que essa situação não se estenda por muito mais tempo e que assim que nós retornarmos aos treinamentos com o grupo, que a gente tenha a oportunidade de ter um período para treinamento coletivo com o grupo antes de iniciar as competições – finalizou Seixas.

​Mesmo sendo decisivo, a semifinal da Copa Ipiranga sub-20 começou sem graça. Flamengo e Botafogo trocavam passes atrás do meio de campo e não conseguiam criar perigo ao adversário. A principal arma dos dois times era a bola parada, seja em cobranças de falta ou escanteio. E foi assim que saiu o único gol da partida: aos 31 do primeiro tempo, Jordan lançou bola na área e Kanu mandou a bola pra dentro.

A partir daí, o Botafogo recuou. O Flamengo dominou a posse de bola e tomou conta do jogo, mas pouco acertou o gol. Patrick, o camisa 10, buscava o jogo no campo defensivo mas ficou longe de ter uma boa atuação. Aos 14 do segundo tempo, o técnico do Flamengo, Gilmar Popoca, tirou um volante, colocou um meia e lançou o time ao ataque.

Os últimos 30 minutos de partida foram ataque contra defesa. O ditado ‘tanto bate até que fura’, desta vez, não valeu. Diego, goleiro do Botafogo, além da dupla de zagueiros, foram perfeitos e afastaram todo o perigo. Paul Robinson has dropped a very worrying transfer claim involving Newcastle United and Joe Willock.

The Lowdown: Bruce wants Willock

As cited by the Evening Standard, Steve Bruce has admitted that he would ‘love’ to sign Willock on a permanent deal from Arsenal once the summer transfer window opens.

This comes off of the back of a very successful loan spell in the North East, where the central midfield player scored no fewer than eight goals in 14 games in total in the Premier League (Transfermarkt).

The Latest: Robinson on Willock

Speaking to Football Insider, Robinson, who is now a pundit after a stellar career playing for the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United, has claimed that the Tyneside club will struggle to bring Willock back to St. James’ Park, and thinks that other teams in the top flight will be looking to sign him:

“Willock been absolutely brilliant in a team who, let’s not forget, have been struggling.

“There has been a lot of pressure on the Newcastle team because a lot of fans want Steve Bruce to be sacked. It’s not easy for a player when that’s going on during a relegation battle. Willock has handled that pressure though.

“Even if Arsenal are to let him go this summer I think they would struggle to sign him.

“His performance over the past few weeks have been fantastic and they have put him in the shop window. I think Premier League clubs will be queuing up to sign him.”

The Verdict: Newcastle may struggle

If other sides in the division come in to try and sign Willock, the Magpies may struggle to compete financially.

It has already been reported that they may have as little as £8-10m to spend on transfers once the market opens, which would not be enough to sign the 21-year-old, unless they can raise enough money from player sales.

Nonetheless, the Toon must try and break the bank if possible in order to bring Willock in permanently, given the impact that he had in his loan spell, which effectively saved them from relegation.

Luan Silva ainda não estreou pelo Palmeiras, mas tem sido cada vez mais comentado diante da sequência de bons treinos na Academia de Futebol. Foi neste jogo que o atleta rompeu o ligamento cruzado anterior no joelho esquerdo. Em março, ele chegou ao Palmeiras para fazer o tratamento, mas passou por outro procedimento no local. O garoto não esconde a ansiedade para voltar a atuar.

– Quero ajudar muito a Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras, e com a ajuda de todos quero conquistar todos os títulos possíveis aqui. Não vejo a hora de voltar a jogar, fiquei um ano sem jogar e quem é jogador sabe o quanto isso incomoda. Sonho em entrar em campo com essa camisa e dar muitas alegrias ao clube e torcida – completou.

Depois de um trabalho de reequilíbrio muscular feito desde o fim do ano passado, Luan Silva vive futuro incerto. Seu contrato de empréstimo com o Palmeiras vence no dia 31 de maio – o clube tem a opção de comprá-lo do Vitória por 3,5 milhões de euros (R$ 17 milhões).

A ideia no Verdão, porém, é tentar prorrogar o empréstimo até dezembro para tomar uma decisão se irá mantê-lo apenas depois de ver o atacante em campo.

Nem mesmo a chegada de Daniel Paulista melhorou o desempenho do time. Nos dois jogos que comandou a equipe, o Leão teve um empate e uma derrota. A defesa levou três gols e o ataque marcou dois tentos.

Situação nos torneios

Eliminado da Copa do Brasil, o Sport tem a Copa do Nordeste e o Estadual no calendário. No torneio regional, o time aparece na quarta colocação da chave A, com seis pontos, dentro da zona de classificação.

No Campeonato Pernambucano o momento é crítico. O time está na sétima posição, dentro da zona de rebaixamento e tem mais três rodadas para escapar de um vexame histórico.

Former Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin Campbell believes Alex Moreno would be a great replacement for Ezgjan Alioski at Leeds United.

The Lowdown: Alioski replacement required

Alioski is expected to move on at the end of the season, having reportedly agreed to join Turkish giants Galatasaray. That will leave Leeds needing to sign a new left-back in the summer transfer window, with a host of names linked with the Whites in recent months.

One of those is Real Betis defender Moreno, who has made 21 appearances in La Liga this season, chipping in with two assists to date.

The Latest: Campbell rates Moreno highly

Campbell believes the 27-year-old could be the ideal man to come in for Alioski as he outlined to Football Insider why the Real Betis left-back could be the perfect fit for Leeds:

“Moreno, he’s a good player. He’s naturally a left footer and he likes to gets up and down that wing as often as possible. He has that attacking ability that Leeds will be after.

“I think he would be a great signing for Leeds. I really like him.”

The Verdict: Could Leeds do better?

Moreno is an experienced figure who could fill the Alioski-shaped void at Elland Road, but it could be argued that there are better options to be found.

The Spaniard’s shortage of assists suggests a lack of attacking thrust – Marcelo Bielsa would surely want a forward-thinking full-back in the mould of Alioski – with an average of just 0.7 key passes per game in the league this season.

In comparison, Nicolas Tagliafico, another Leeds target, has averaged 1.1 key passes per match for Ajax in the Eredivisie, also getting one goal and three assists.

Moreno seems to be a solid transfer target, but Tagliafico appears the more experienced, superior choice if the Whites want to go up another gear in the Premier League next season.
