Manchester United: In-form Alex Telles spells trouble for Brandon Williams

Like the majority of Manchester United’s new signings, Alex Telles has been unable to hit the ground running for the most part. After arriving at Old Trafford from FC Porto for £13.6m plus £18m in add-ons in the summer, he has made just three appearances in all competitions so far this season, as he became the second United player to test positive for COVID-19 after Paul Pogba contracted the virus on holiday.

However, his time with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side has so far showcased his versatility, as the 27-year-old has been deployed as either a left-back or on the left wing in recent weeks.

The Brazil international started the 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion at home, playing the full 90′ minutes, before he continued his red-hot form as the Red Devils romped to a 4-1 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Per SofaScore, he received a high rating of 7 out of ten for his performance – he made two tackles and two clearances, whilst he produced four key passes, 32 out of 41 passes in total and took 72 touches of the ball, as the full-back relished the chance to demonstrate his attacking ability.

As the Brazillian continues to be integrated into the starting line-up, Brandon Williams continues to fall further down the pecking order. Despite Telles’ positive test and Luke Shaw’s injury struggles, the 20-year-old has still made fewer appearances than either of his teammates, having played just 301′ minutes of first-team football so far this season.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Southampton are one of several Premier League clubs who are closely monitoring his situation ahead of a potential loan move in January.

Whilst Solskjaer blocked his exit in the summer, it seems he is prepared to change his mind, as his appearances have been limited to just two Carabao Cup appearances this season.

Given his age, Williams, who reportedly receives wages worth £60,000-per-week, has a lot of room yet to grow, so sending the academy product out on loan to get some minutes under his belt would be a shrewd bit of business by Ed Woodward. The youngster started 11 out of 17 games in the Premier League last season and ably deputised for Shaw in his absence.

However, it seems as though Solskjaer prefers the new summer recruit instead, having handed him a start for the past two games in a row, whilst Williams has been left on the bench.

With two other left-backs now on the roster, competition for places has arguably never been higher. But if the outcast is allowed to leave on loan in January and impresses at St Mary’s, he could force Solskjaer to reshuffle his plans.

Everton: Fans laud link to Valencia ace Maxi Gomez

Many Everton fans have been lauding a transfer link to Maxi Gomez as the Daily Telegraph have reported that the Merseyside club are keeping tabs on the Valencia ace.

According to the outlet, Carlo Ancelotti’s team have made contact with the Spanish side with regards to the availability of the player, and Gomez will apparently be allowed to leave so that they can trim their squad going into the new 2020/21 term in order to cut costs.

Indeed, the £28.8 million-valued ace has a relatively impressive scoring record at club level, netting no fewer than 70 times and making a further 26 assists in 170 games in all competitions over the last few seasons, as per Transfermarkt.

These members of the Goodison Park faithful lauded the link on Twitter, with one EFC supporter even claiming that the Uruguayan international is the ‘closest we’ll come to ever replacing Lukaku,’ as the former Chelsea and Manchester United man managed to score 87 goals in 166 matches for the Toffees (via Transfermarkt):

Report: Newcastle set to cash in on rarely-seen striker

Newcastle United striker Yoshinori Muto is set to leave the club in the summer transfer window, Chronicle Live reports.

Steve Bruce’s side have invested in the summer transfer window and have brought in Callum Wilson from AFC Bournemouth, bolstering their striking ranks in the process.

The deal to bring the forward in has surely left Muto facing even less football in the 2020/21 season.

Signed in 2018, the 28-year-old made just two Premier League starts last term, and will find his path blocked this term.

The report states that he has subsequently been told he will have to leave if he is to play regularly and he has suitors lining up to sign him.

German clubs Cologne and Augsburg are both said to be interested in signing Muto on loan, while Mainz are also monitoring developments.

Muto has made just 28 appearances in total for Newcastle, scoring two goals, and a move seems in the best interests of all parties.

He is valued at £4.95m by Transfermarkt.

Ian Harte reacts to Leeds United clinching promotion

One of the heroes of that great Leeds team of the early 2000s, Ian Harte more than most would have been chuffed to bits at seeing his former side clinch their return to the Premier League. The Whites secured their top-flight status thanks to rivals West Brom slipping to a surprise 2-1 defeat to Huddersfield Town on Friday night, meaning that they have guaranteed a top-two spot in the Championship and automatic promotion. And Harte was quick to take to Twitter to share his thoughts on Leeds’ Premier League return.

Having played in the Premier League in his time with Leeds, Harte will know all about the kind of magic that Elland Road can inspire when hosting top-flight football.

In what has been a long and drawn-out campaign, Marcelo Bielsa’s side have completed their main goal of finally getting out of the Championship, and they’ve done it with some games to spare too.

No more play-off heartbreak, and no more worrying about a late meltdown. The job is done, and now it’s time to celebrate.

Crystal Palace: Fans react as James McArthur will reportedly sign a contract extension

Crystal Palace have a big transfer window ahead of them as they build to remain a mid-table team in the Premier League, and many fans of the South London side are reacting to the news that one player is due to sign a contract extension at the club.

Palace Xtra tweeted out the news from TEAMtalk suggesting that midfielder James McArthur is set to sign a new deal at the club to keep him at Selhurst Park until 2022.

The Scotsman is highly regarded by fans of the Eagles, and it is easy to see why as he is still performing at a very high level at the age of 32. The central midfielder averaged 2.4 tackles, 1.6 interceptions and 1.3 clearances per game last season, via WhoScored.

Despite his age, this sees him still valued at £4.32 million on Transfermarkt, and he truly has been a great servant for the club as he has picked up 19 goals and 17 assists in his 208 appearances.

He featured in 37 Premier League games last season, highlighting that he is seen as a vital player at the club, and it is no surprise to see so many Palace fans happy with the reports with one labelling him a “top player.”

Wolves’ Bright Enobakhare shouldn’t see contract extended after Wigan loan struggles

Wolverhampton Wanderers are well on track to cement their name amongst the top-tier of clubs in the Premier League.

After winning the Championship title in 2018, they finished seventh in their maiden season back in the promised land, thus qualifying for the Europa League.

This season, so far, proves that they are here to stay, rather than doing a ‘Burnley’ and struggling as a result of playing across the continent.

In the top-flight, Nuno Santo steered his side to an 11-game unbeaten run which only came to an end last weekend at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur, who needed an injury-time header from Jan Vertonghen to snatch all three points.

It’s just their third defeat of this Premier League campaign; still fewer than defending champions Manchester City, their red neighbours and even Spurs too.

Their continued presence at the top end of the table means it will be harder for fringe players to break into the senior fold unless they clearly have something about them, and the same goes for any players currently out on loan.

Bright Enobakhare is one who may suffer as a result, even if Nuno lacks viable options in the striking department.

Only Raul Jimenez and Patrick Cutrone play a role in the first-team while Benny Ashley-Seal seems more likely to breakthrough than the 21-year-old given his three appearances on the bench this season.

Enobakhare is currently on loan at Championship side Wigan Athletic and let’s just say his spell at the DW Stadium has been the complete opposite of his forename.

The goalless striker, rated at £450k by Transfermarkt, has played just 131 minutes all season for the Latics despite being fit to feature.

It’s been such a poor spell that Wigan Today have claimed that he is a shoo-in to return to the west Midlanders next month, and with his contract expiring in the summer, his future at the club is surely in serious doubt.

The Nigerian youth international has played 49 times for Wolves, scoring just three times – a pretty puny goal return for a forward.

Given Nuno’s preference to Jimenez, him splashing out £16m for Cutrone and the club being linked to RB Salzburg striker Hwang Hee-Chan, it seems that the 21-year-old’s time at Molineux is bleak rather than bright.

Crystal Palace: Fans react as takeover news emerges

Many Crystal Palace fans have been debating reports that an American consortium are looking to invest in the Premier League.

According to the Daily Star, former Liverpool technical director Damien Comolli is heading an American consortium seeking to take over a Premier League club. The Eagles, along with fellow Premier League sides West Ham, Southampton and Newcastle United, are all reportedly on the radar of the US investors.

Comolli was in his role at Liverpool for two years before leaving and the Hammers appear favourites but this is only as long as David Moyes’ men can survive relegation.

Palace fans cannot complain with the recent success their current owner Steve Parish has brought since 2010 as they have managed to stay in the Championship, get promoted to the Premier League in 2013 and stayed in the division since that promotion.

However, he gave a percentage of the club to American owners Josh Harris and David Blitzer since the club have been in England’s top flight and they have not pleased some fans of the south London club . They have wanted to sell for a while now so it makes sense that the Eagles are linked with this new American consortium.

West Brom’s promotion push can be aided by Leeds United keeping it close

West Bromwich Albion once again returned to the top of the table on Monday evening after defeating Preston North End 1-0 at Deepdale.

A moment of controversy in the final minute of the match sealed all three points – winger Kyle Edwards burst into the box only to be swiped down by home goalkeeper Declan Rudd, at least according to the referee.

Charlie Austin duly stepped up to dispatch his third goal in as many games, handing the Baggies their throne back ahead of Leeds United.

The Championship is quickly becoming a two-horse race as the win has opened up a seven-point gap to those in the playoffs.

Albion may be the only team to have lost one game all season in the division, but Marcelo Bielsa’s side have consistently kept the pressure on as in the past month alone, they have played before West Brom twice and taken the top spot only for Slaven Bilic’s men to regain control soon after.

When you’re averaging 2.2 points per game, complacency is surely prone to creep in, but this battle with the west Yorkshire club only ensures that such a sense of security never runs through the side as any one week they slip up, they will have lost ground as the league’s leaders.

Last season, Norwich City were promoted averaging 2.06 so that should be enough encouragement to keep going at it. As of right now, the Baggies should surpass 96 points which has been guaranteed automatic promotion in four of the last five Championship campaigns.

If the west Midlanders started to run away with it, the character of the squad would certainly be tested – at one stage last season in the Premier League, Liverpool held a ten-point lead over Manchester City, but it was Pep Guardiola’s side that came away as champions in the end.

That only goes to show what can happen in football, and even though those at the Hawthorns will constantly be looking over their shoulder, it provides the exact sort of test a team needs to pull over the line come the end of the season.

West Ham fans have mixed views on Darren Randolph transfer claim

According to 90min, West Ham United have opened talks with Middlesbrough over the possibility of re-signing experienced goalkeeper Darren Randolph.

The 32-year-old turned out for the Hammers between 2015 and 2017 before joining Boro, where he has made over 100 appearances in all competitions.

According to 90min, West Ham want to re-sign Randolph to provide competition for Lukasz Fabianski when the Poland international returns from a hip problem.

Indeed, Roberto had a horrible time between the sticks and has since been replaced by David Martin for the team’s last two league fixtures.

The Randolph news has come as a bit of a surprise, but many of the club’s supporters are seemingly open to the idea of the stopper returning.

Not everyone shares the same view, though, as some of the supporters have questioned West Ham’s ambition as they consider the possibility of bringing the Republic of Ireland international back to the club.

90min have actually claimed that Boro would be open to allowing Randolph to leave due to the stopper’s high wages, despite the fact that he has kept 39 clean sheets in his 112 outings for the club in all competitions.

West Ham will be looking to bounce back from Wednesday’s 2-0 loss at Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League when they welcome Arsenal to the London Stadium on Monday night.

Meanwhile, one Hammers player is seemingly facing a battle to win back his spot in Manuel Pellegrini’s first XI.

Spurs fans disgusted by clip from Sheffield United draw

Tottenham Hotspur fans have been left disgusted by a clip of Sheffield United’s goal against them on Saturday.

Spurs drew 1-1 with Chris Wilder’s side at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and remain in the bottom half of the table, 11 points off Manchester City and the top four.

The Blades’ official Twitter account posted a clip of George Baldock’s goal, calling attention to the fact that there were 23 passes before the ball hit the back of the net.

Spurs fans, though, have preferred to focus on the lack of pressing from their side, allowing Wilder’s men to progress up the pitch and eventually fashion a chance from which they equalised, cancelling out Son Heung-Min’s opener.

Indeed, supporters have expressed their disdain for the defending in general, with the goal being the 17th that Spurs have conceded already this term across 12 Premier League games.
