Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya climb IPL 2025’s Orange and Purple Cap tables respectively after SRH vs MI game. Here are the latest rankings
ESPNcricinfo staff24-Apr-20250:42
Knight: Klaasen batting far too low for SRH
The Orange Cap tablePooran, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) No. 3, had started the IPL with a bang, and been the top run-getter from Game No. 7 to the Game No. 39, when a dry patch, combined with Sai Sudharsan’s prolific run, pushed him down to No. 2, with 377 runs from nine innings.MI’s Suryakumar, who has been super consistent in the IPL this season without really making an almighty splash, now has 373 runs after scoring 40 not out in 19 balls against SRH. He hasn’t had a single proper failure this season: 29, 48, 27*, 67, 28, 40, 26, 68* and 40*. That makes Suryakumar the new No. 3 on the table.Jos Buttler, the second Gujarat Titans (GT) batter in the top four with Sai Sudharsan, has 356 runs now, and is followed by the second LSG batter in the top five, Mitchell Marsh with 344 runs.A total of ten batters have now crossed the 300-run mark (Sai Sudharsan is the only one past 400): LSG’s Aiden Markram with 326, KL Rahul of Delhi Capitals (DC) with 323, Virat Kohli of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) with 322, Yashasvi Jaiswal of Rajasthan Royals (RR) with 307, and GT captain Shubman Gill with 305.No SRH batter is anywhere near the top after predictions before the season that they would finish the job they had started last season: break all IPL run-scoring records. Their best at the moment is Heinrich Klaasen, who is just outside the top ten and just behind the men with 300-plus runs, at No. 11 with 281 runs to his name after the 44-ball 71 he hit against MI.1:43
Is Rohit well and truly back?
The Purple Cap tablePrasidh Krishna, the GT quick bowler, is well ahead of the pack at this stage, with 16 wickets from eight innings, but seven bowlers are joint-second with 12 wickets, Hardik joining that group with his sole wicket on Wednesday. In case of more than one bowler having the same number of wickets, the rankings on ESPNcricinfo are based on bowling average, placing GT’s R Sai Kishore in second place, followed by Noor Ahmad of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), DC’s Kuldeep Yadav, Hardik, RCB’s Josh Hazlewood, Mohammed Siraj of GT and LSG’s Shardul Thakur, all 12-wicket men. Key ninth-wicket stand hauls hosts over line in classic contest at Lord’s
ECB Reporters Network supported by Rothesay05-May-2025Luke Hollman’s maiden century paved the way for Middlesex to snatch a dramatic victory as they edged past Kent in a see-saw Rothesay County Championship classic at Lord’s.Bowled out for 129 on the opening day, Kent looked favourites after setting a stiff target of 365 and reducing their hosts to 81 for three overnight – but Hollman’s diligent knock of 103 anchored a remarkable fightback. The 24-year-old shared key partnerships with Stephen Eskinazi (41) – who retired hurt with a back spasm but returned later – and Jack Davies (59), only for leg-spinner Matt Parkinson to turn the contest back in Kent’s favour, dismissing Hollman and Davies in quick succession. It needed an unbroken ninth-wicket stand of 52 between Toby Roland-Jones and Zafar Gohar to wrap up a record Middlesex run-chase against Kent, the latter slog-sweeping Parkinson (three for 105) for six to secure victory with just one over remaining.A morning shower slightly delayed the resumption of Middlesex’s innings before not-out batters Hollman and Eskinazi knuckled down to blunt the visitors’ attack with few causes for alarm.Hollman overtook his partner by steering Kashif Ali to the point boundary and, even though Parkinson extracted some turn from the Pavilion End, the pair made steady progress during the first hour and half. However, they were separated when Eskinazi – having turned Parkinson behind square – clutched at his lower back while completing a routine single and grimaced with pain as he sank to the turf at the bowler’s end.The opener eventually limped back to the dressing-room, with replacement Ryan Higgins doing well to dig out an inswinging yorker from Jamal Richards shortly before another bout of drizzle curtailed the session.Hollman advanced beyond 50 for the sixth time in his red-ball career after lunch, sweeping and on-driving Parkinson for boundaries and then nudging a single to reach his individual landmark as Middlesex’s target dipped below 200.But it was the former England leg-spinner who achieved a breakthrough, reacting quickly to deflect Hollman’s straight drive onto the wicket with non-striker Higgins scrambling in vain to make his ground. The run-out raised Kent spirits, with more close fielders ushered in as Parkinson was joined by Jack Leaning in a spin-only offensive, capturing another wicket as Tawanda Muyeye raced out from slip to snare a looping edge off bat and pad of Ben Geddes.Kashif returned to share the new ball with George Garrett, who was hoisted over the rope at long leg by Davies but almost accounted for Hollman on the stroke of tea, a clipped half-volley fractionally eluding the diving midwicket fielder.Hollman kept his cool to complete his ton from 184 balls and that was the signal for Davies to press the accelerator, slamming Garrett for a six and three fours during a single over that cost 29 in all.A reverse sweep for four off Parkinson took Davies to his half-century and simultaneously lifted Middlesex’s total above 300 – yet the pendulum appeared to swing again as Parkinson picked up two wickets in three balls.Hollman was first to go, snapped up at short leg before Davies holed out to deep midwicket and, having returned with a runner, Eskinazi could increase his score by just two before Joey Evison pinned him lbw with 51 still required.Gohar and Roland-Jones (23 not out) gradually whittled those down, while Evison (three for 71) and Parkinson maintained the pressure in tandem as the overs ticked away and shadows began to lengthen. With five needed and seven balls remaining, Gohar (30 not out) took on Parkinson and dispatched the ball over the short boundary to seal Middlesex’s second win of the season.
“Obviously playing one day cricket here when other teams haven’t played a lot, is nice”

Kane Williamson and Devon Conway kept New Zealand steady•AFP/Getty Images
Sometimes scorecards really do tell the story of a game, and in this case, a cursory glance makes what happened obvious. A Kane Williamson masterclass – his 14th ODI hundred and first since 2019, made light work of a South African total not too far removed from the one that saw Pakistan fall well short on Saturday – helped book New Zealand’s place in the final, and earn them three rest days. The former captain said he felt the pitch was there to be taken advantage of, and praised his team-mates, most of all Devon Conway – who came into the side following Rachin Ravindra’s freak injury and scored a brisk 97.”It was great to be out there and be a part of some important partnerships,” Williamson said after the game. “Devon Conway was outstanding – he was at his best and got us off to a great start. We were able to put that partnership together that took us a long way into that chase. That was really valuable.”What looks inexorable in hindsight was anything but certain. South Africa had put on a stiff 304 thanks largely to a stunning onslaught from Matthew Breetzke as he became the first debutant to score 150 in an ODI. They pillaged 108 in the last ten overs with momentum on their side at the lunch break. When New Zealand had subjected Pakistan to a similar assault, they wilted in the second innings, losing wickets in bunches and falling well short.Related

But after a steady opening partnership, Conway and Williamson put together a huge stand, taking advantage of some inexperienced South African bowling and a true pitch that only appeared to get better as the day aged. Williamson looked in the form of his life, and appeared to take no risks while continuing to score at a strike rate close to 140. He brought up his century in 72 balls, the second fastest ODI hundred he has scored. The two put on 187 runs off 154 balls for the second wicket, and by the time Conway sliced one to a fielder, the contest was effectively done and dusted.”The pitch was definitely a better surface [to bat] today,” he said. “For whatever reason, I’m not sure. That’s part of some of the good learnings, really – different times of the day going into the evening. It came onto the bat quite nicely and it still took a little bit of turn. So it’s quite interesting; it’s the sort of wicket where if you’re able to get breakthroughs, you can apply some pressure. But it was nice we were able to build those partnerships and break the back of the chase. For me, it’s about trying to assess conditions and do the best job I can and then be a part of partnerships for the team in whatever role it is. It was tough going – kept quite low in that day time innings. But it did change a bit.”Williamson understands the value of getting some extra game time in with the Champions Trophy around the corner, but also has the experience of not reading too much into it. This game was played during the day – a timeslot that will not be in play for any game during the Champions Trophy. However, just as New Zealand were ruthless in defence of a total against Pakistan, they were equally clinical at hunting one down today.”Obviously playing one day cricket here when other teams haven’t probably been playing a huge amount of one day cricket is nice,” Williamson added. “It helps us to try and get as familiar as you can with our roles and how we operate as a unit and also the conditions. Having said that, we know that each game is a match in isolation. When you come to a tournament like Champions Trophy, the top eight teams on their day giving the conditions, anyone can beat anybody, so a really competitive tournament. That is exciting, I think, and a great prospect for viewers as well.”Today, though, a sizeable crowd, considering it was a weekday with two neutral teams, were not thinking of the Champions Trophy. Williamson was the man they had come to see, and as he pointed out, it was his side they seemed to support. And, as he has proved to fans on the other side of the world time and again, he showed Pakistan supporters what it felt to throw their support behind a cricketer who never seems to let anyone down.”It was great to see a crowd here today,” Williamson said. “Pakistan not a part of this match, but heard a few chants for the Kiwis which was nice as well. I suppose we have been here fairly often in recent years and that was great. So it’s nice to get a bit of a crowd along to this match and certainly had an outstanding atmosphere in the first one and that was great to be a part of as well.”
Following a five-star display against London rivals West Ham United, Chelsea are reportedly plotting a late blockbuster move to sign a Premier League rival worth £80m.
Maresca: "Fantastic" Estevao has plenty to learn
When Enzo Maresca decided to throw Estevao Willian straight into the deep end against West Ham United following Cole Palmer’s injury in the warm-up, not many knew what to expect. The Brazilian’s ill-timed flick which led to Lucas Paqueta’s stunning strike to hand the Hammers a shock lead then quickly sparked concerns that he would drown under the pressure at the London Stadium, but he soon found his groove.
The Blues issued a swift response to West Ham’s unexpected goal and found themselves level courtesy of Joao Pedro, before the striker turned provider for Pedro Neto to hand his side the lead for the first time.
From there, barring Niclas Fullkrug’s disallowed goal, Chelsea didn’t look back and Estevao soon showed his style with an assist for Enzo Fernandes. Moises Caicedo and Trevoh Chalobah then rounded off a fine display and one that saw Estevao receive high praise from Maresca.
The Italian, whilst admitting that the teenager has plenty to learn, told reporters: “He needs to adapt, he needs to make many mistakes to understand how the Premier League is different to in Brazil. We conceded after he did the flick, he needs to understand but he is a fantastic player.”
Even after Estevao’s positive display, though, there will still be some concerns over Palmer’s injury and replacing his quality if he does miss an extended period.
Those are also concerns that could lead to one last blockbuster move from the Blues, however, and the arrival of a player that Palmer already knows very well.
Chelsea now plotting £80m Rogers move
According to GiveMeSport, Chelsea are now plotting a late move to sign Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa to hand Enzo Maresca a target that he has been wanting all summer. BlueCo have had their eye on the England international in recent months and are now reportedly circling as they weigh up what is reportedly a tempting bid to secure their target.
"At a standstill" – Chelsea have now "paused talks" for "quick" talent

If those at Stamford Bridge are looking to make one last statement of intent, then the arrival of last season’s PFA Young Player of the Year in a move worth £80m would certainly be one way to do exactly that. Alas, it remains to be seen just how viable a move is with less than 10 days left until the window slams shut.
Described as “fantastic” by former Aston Villa man Stiliyan Petrov last season, the prospect alone of a partnership between Rogers and Palmer at Stamford Bridge should be enough to excite Chelsea fans. The two England stars know each other well from their time in Manchester City’s academy and both would complete Maresca’s attack.
América entered the Clásico Nacional at Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes as clear favorites, given the very realities of both clubs in the Apertura 2025. The Azulcremas were sitting second in the standings, while Chivas were near the bottom in 16th place. But Gabriel Milito’s side stunned their rivals with a 2-1 win on Saturday night.

Jardine admits Chivas were the better side
Goals from Armando González and Roberto Alvarado sealed the upset for the visitors, while USMNT star Alejandro Zendejas pulled one back for the hosts. Chivas climbed to 11th in the table as América slipped to third.
América head coach André Jardine acknowledged that Chivas deserved their 2-1 victory n the 262nd edition of El Clásico de México.
“We need a big dose of humility and credit Chivas for the match they played. They were the better team. They earned the three points, and we have to focus on what’s ahead,” Jardine said after the loss.
The Brazilian coach pointed out that América started strong but failed to capitalize.
“I felt we controlled much of the first half, even if we didn’t create enough chances. For me, Chivas delivered their best defensive performance of the season,” he said.

Milito: 'Let this be a starting point for us'
Chivas head coach Gabriel Milito celebrated his first victory in a Clásico Nacional, stressing that the 2-1 triumph over América should not be labeled as an upset but rather as a deserved result – and perhaps a turning point for his team.
“It wasn’t a shock result, I don’t see it that way. The team had already been showing positive signs. When you don’t win, it feels like everything is wrong, starting with the coach, and the players get questioned too. But this was no fluke – we came to win and fully earned it,” Milito said.
The Argentine manager pushed back against the narrative of a “batacazo,” or surprise, insisting it disrespects his squad.
“Those are just labels to mislead people. They say upset, but I don’t want that word to diminish what my players achieved. This team deserves respect. If someone wants to call it an upset, that’s up to them – but for us, it was merit,” he said.

Tensions boiled over after Chivas’ second goal, scored by Armando González, as players from both sides got involved in shoves and heated exchanges. América’s frustration was evident while Chivas celebrated what was shaping up to be a crucial victory.
The scuffle didn’t escalate into anything more, and no red cards were shown, but it highlighted just how charged the Clásico Nacional remains.

The 36-year-old, who signed for Dagenham and Redbridge in July on a three-year deal after leaving Bordeaux, came off the bench with his side 2-1 down but things only got worse after his introduction. The visitors comfortably won the second half as the ex-Liverpool man had a debut to forget on Saturday, with the game ending 5-2.

Former Newcastle United forward Carroll has played in the Premier League and has nine England caps, but it is clear he welcomes the opportunity to play in the sixth tier of English football. When he joined the club, he said, "It doesn't matter the level, as long as I get on the pitch and play football, that's all that matters." The ex-West Ham man will hope he can improve the Greater London team's fortunes going forward, though.
WHAT DAGENHAM'S MANAGER SAID
Manager Lee Bradbury, who handed Carroll some pre-season minutes earlier this summer, said of Carroll after the defeat, "Andy is going to be a big player for us with his experience and the way he leads the line. He is a handful, he has done it at the top level as a top pro, and he will only make us better and stronger."

The former Reading star, who has missed the start of the season due to a hamstring injury, could feature for his new team next Saturday in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup against Bedford Town. Beyond that, Carroll will be targeting firing Dagenham up the table as they currently sit a lowly 21st.
Setting their sights on signing another attacking addition this summer, the Friedkin Group are now reportedly plotting a move to sign a talented £50 million star for Everton.
Friedkin could hand Everton £150m spree
Friedkin are in a strong position to make some much-needed changes at Everton this summer. As revealed by earlier reports, the Toffees are able to spend as much as £150m if they please ahead of next season, having already signed Thierno Barry, Mark Travers and Carlos Alcaraz on a permanent deal.
Villarreal's Thierno Barry
As they head into a new era at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, David Moyes still reportedly wants to sign two midfielders to soften the blow of Abdoulaye Doucoure’s exit and a new winger.
Several targets have emerged who would tick those boxes too, with the likes of James McAtee and Takefusa Kubo chief among their priorities. Both would be excellent additions, especially the latter, who came through at Real Madrid and has since thrived at Real Sociedad.
The Japan international, whilst not at his true best last season, still managed seven goals and four assists; the type of numbers that would see Everton land an instant upgrade on former loanee Jack Harrison.
Whether Moyes’ side can agree a deal with Sociedad in the coming weeks is the big question.
The Merseyside club are reportedly preparing to submit an offer worth around £35m, which they hope will be enough to advance any deal to sign Kubo. The move would mark Everton’s second La Liga signing of the summer after Barry and would once again steal plenty of headlines.
That said, Kubo isn’t the only option on their shortlist.
Takefusa Kubo scores for Japan
Indeed, reports are now suggesting that Friedkin have set their sights on another talented winger.
Everton plotting Tyler Dibling swoop
As reported by The Times’ Paul Joyce, Friedkin are now plotting a fresh swoop to sign Tyler Dibling from relegated Southampton this summer. The teenage talent was one of few standouts for the Saints in a season to forget last time out, and he could now get the chance to retain his Premier League place.

Dibling won’t come cheap, however. There are claims that Southampton are looking to secure as much as £50m to sell the 19-year-old this summer in what would make him Everton’s joint-record signing with Richarlison.
The big question will be whether Dibling is worthy of breaking that record, and based on Russell Martin’s praise last season, the answer is a resounding yes.
Southampton's TylerDiblingin action with Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers and Ian Maatsen
The former Southampton boss told reporters:
“Tyler was unfortunate not to play earlier because he had an amazing pre-season.
“So he has an incredible belief in himself in a really nice, humble and modest way. But he has to just keep living at 100 per cent and understand where that is and understand what’s got him this far.
“I think he has a brilliant support network with his family. He has a lot of trust from us and he has that back. It’s not always plain sailing with young players.”
What a year this has been so far for Liverpool Football Club. Having wrapped up the Premier League title early, while their divisional rivals continued to work hard on the training pitch, the Reds were partying hard in Ibiza and Dubai. Not a bad life being a footballer, is it?
Since then, they’ve only sought to back up that league crown by strengthening significantly in the summer transfer window.
The market is only a few weeks old, yet Arne Slot and Co have wrapped up two signings in the shape of Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz. There’s more to come too.
Milos Kerkez is now reportedly due to arrive any day now from Bournemouth, while another Premier League defender, Marc Guehi, is earmarked as their next target.
Dare Liverpool fans dream of Alexander Isak too? The Newcastle forward remains a key target this summer.
But, while that happens in the background, there are more targets on Richard Hughes’ shortlist.
Liverpool eyeing one of the best young midfielders
It’s safe to say the Liverpool midfield has undergone something of a revamp over the last year or so.
Transfer Focus
Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.
After Fabinho and Jordan Henderson headed to Saudi, the Reds looked to add further bodies to their midfield but it hasn’t all been plain sailing in the transfer market, famously missing out on Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo to Chelsea.
They did sign Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister, however, two players who enjoyed fabulous seasons on their way to winning the title. Gravenberch was nominated for the Premier League’s Young Player of the Season award, while Mac Allister is up for the PFA’s Player of the Season.
Despite Wirtz having now joined the fold too, FSG still aren’t content with their options and in the future, could make a move for PSG’s Warren Zaire-Emery.
That’s according to journalist Graeme Bailey who revealed this weekend that Liverpool are eyeing up a move for the 19-year-old midfielder.
Speaking to Rousing the Kop, he said: “It looks like a few clubs are having a sniff around Zaire-Emery. Is he a generational talent Liverpool will try for if he suddenly becomes available? Possibly, they have done work on him before. That was primarily before Ryan Gravenberch’s rise.”
Why Zaire-Emery is so exciting
When Liverpool announced the signing of Wirtz this week, arriving in a move worth a British-record transfer fee of £116m, it wasn’t surprising.
After all, this move has been earmarked for several weeks now. However, it did send a statement to the rest of the Premier League.
Wirtz is no mug. In the words of former Leverkusen striker Patrick Helmes, the German is “probably the best midfielder in the world.”
High praise indeed and to back up those words, he scored 16 and registered 15 assists in 2024/25, phenomenal numbers.
Florian Wirtz
Well, Zaire-Emery is certainly cut from a similar cloth. Wirtz made his Leverkusen debut at the tender age of 17 while PSG’s French sensation made his Ligue 1 bow for the Parisiens at 16. They’ve been around the block for a while and they’ve already impressed plenty.
The teenager’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has already described him as “one of the best midfielders in the world” while scout Jacek Kulig has suggested that he’s “one of the biggest talents of his generation in Europe.”
But, why all the hype? Well, as data analyst Ben Mattinson outlines, the 19-year-old is an “Mbappe at Monaco level of talent”, largely thanks to his blend of skills.
He’s “so secure on the ball,” states Mattinson. “He progresses the ball effectively from deeper zones, has good physicality and excellent body usage in duels” with a “quality passing range”.
You name it, Zaire-Emery has it. Traditionally a deeper-lying midfielder, the PSG star certainly possesses the tools to rival Gravenberch for a place in the midfield, and while less box-crashing than the Dutchman, he’d certainly provide an extra layer of class.

Truthfully, there’s very little Zaire-Emery can’t do. Perhaps the only area would be his ability to score goals – finding the net three times in 2024/25 – but as a deep-lying player, he’s not really required to do that.
Either way, this would be a phenomenal capture for Liverpool. Like Wirtz, he’s one of the most exciting young talents in European football right now.
He's a dream Isak alternative: Liverpool exploring move for £160m forward

Leeds transfer business heating up with Nmecha and Bijol
The Whites and the 49ers Enterprises have made early progress in the summer transfer window, with Lukas Nmecha agreeing to move to Elland Road on a two-year contract from July 1.
The German forward will leave Wolfsburg for Leeds and won’t cost the 49ers a penny, providing competition to the likes of Joel Piroe, Patrick Bamford and Mateo Joseph.
At the back, Leeds are now set to sign Udinese centre-back Jaka Bijol after weeks of talks and rumours. The Slovenia international was in Yorkshire on Wednesday and will be the next through the Elland Road door.
With the fixture list announced, Leeds still have plenty of time until their opening game of the Premier League season against Everton and will be hoping to make more additions after Nmecha and Bijol.
Another attacker is wanted alongside Nmecha, and a top target appears to be Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz.
Leeds submit bid to sign Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz
Reports from Sky Sports in recent days claimed Leeds were interested in signing the Brazilian this summer.
According to The Evening Standard, Leeds have made a bid worth an initial £26m to bring Muniz to Yorkshire. The offer also included £6m worth of add-ons, however, those at Craven Cottage have declined the bid from the 49ers.
Fulham see Muniz ‘as one of the club’s most valuable assets’ but they ‘may be forced to consider his exit if an offer too good to refuse arrives’.
It is added that ‘Leeds plan to sign a top striker this summer but are expected to move on to other targets now that their bid for Muniz has been rebuffed’.

The 24-year-old, who won the Championship title with Fulham in 2021/22, has scored 17 Premier League goals in the last two seasons in the equivalent of just over 28 full games.
He has also caught the eye of Premier League icon Alan Shearer, who called Muniz “horrible to play against” in 2024.
For now, though, it looks as if Leeds will have to look elsewhere for their top striker signing.
